Kyshawn George Becomes Third Swiss Player Chosen in First Round of NBA Draft

Kyshawn George has become the third Swiss player chosen in the first round of the NBA draft. The 20-year-old from Valais will wear the Washington jersey, after being selected in 24th position by the New York Knicks.

Also trained in Chalon-sur-Sâone, Kyshawn George continues to follow in the footsteps of Thabo Sefolosha (no. 13 in the 2006 draft) and Clint Capela (no. 25 in the 2014 draft). He will join a team in full reconstruction, the Wizards, who drafted two other players in this first round including the Frenchman Alex Sarr in no. 2.

Son of former Monthey legend Deon George, Kyshawn George therefore has the same fate as Sefolosha during the draft. The Chablais native was chosen by the Knicks, who immediately sent him to Washington in exchange for two draft picks. The Vaudois had meanwhile been “traded” to Chicago after being retained by Philadelphia.

Kyshawn George (2m03), who also has Canadian nationality, is capable of playing at positions 2 and 3. He is coming off a season in the NCAA with the Miami Hurricanes, where he averaged 7.6 points but was noted for his defensive qualities and his 3-point shooting (over 40% success).
