Latvian football player Skopenko was fatally stabbed in the Netherlands

The Dutch media “AD.nl” reported that the 24-year-old Skopenko was hit by a 33-year-old man. Before the incident, they had consumed alcoholic beverages together.

Referring to what the police said, the media reports that a dispute broke out between two men from Latvia.

The victim was stabbed in the neck and sought help in a nearby supermarket after the attack, while the assailant fled the scene of the crime.

Later, medics arrived and took the stabbed Skopenko to the hospital, but the doctors failed to save his life.

Currently, the Dutch law enforcement officers are continuing their investigation and looking for eyewitnesses to the event.

During his career, the footballer played in Rēzekne FA, Jēkabpils SC, TFK “Rēzekne” and “Valmiera FC” teams. In 2019, Skopenko represented the Latvian U-19 indoor football team, with which he participated in the final tournament of the European Championship held in Riga.

Skopenko spent the last years in Lithuania.

The Latvian Football Federation has expressed its condolences to Skopenko’s relatives, friends and relatives.

The Valmiera team has also expressed its condolences to the football player’s relatives.
