This is absolutely extraordinary and unique in history. A basketball player has managed to have such longevity that he will have the chance to share the courts with his son. This father? LeBron James. His son? Bronny, selected in 55th pick of the 2024 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers.
The fact that a father and son are playing in the NBA at the same time is already a unique event in NBA history. But then the fact that they are playing together on the same team makes the feat even crazier. LeBron James and his son Bronny will play for the Los Angeles Lakers next season.

You can’t say it’s a coincidence. The King has been talking about this dream for years. And according to Bob Myers, Rich Paul, their mutual agent, called the other teams to tell them not to select Bronny or he would go to Australia. No, you’re not dreaming.

Nepotism or not, the feat is still a tall order. To make it possible, LeBron James had to have a son at age 20, maintain his high level until he was 39, and have his heir develop into a great basketball player despite his disappointing performance at UNC last season.
The number of parameters is enormous and it will be difficult for another father/son pair to reproduce the feat. Maybe Jayson and Deuce Tatum, you never know.
The James family will be one of the biggest points of excitement next season in the NBA. We can’t wait to see the son’s first basket on an assist from his dad. Call us emotional if you want, but when we see the pride in LeBron’s eyes, tears will surely flow from ours.
