Lewandowski injured with Poland before the Euro Cup

LONDON, 11 June (dpa/EP) –

FC Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski, captain of the Polish national team, had to leave the field due to injury this Monday in the last friendly preparation for the Euro Cup against Turkey in Warsaw (2-1), a setback that could make jeopardize their participation in the continental event.

The culé attacker left the field with an apparent thigh problem 32 minutes into the Polish team’s agonizing victory. As if that were not enough, striker Karol Swiderski was also substituted after suffering an ankle injury while celebrating the first goal in the 12th minute.

Turkey, who will also participate in the Euro Cup, equalized through Baris Alper Yilmaz, but Nicola Zalewski gave Poland some joy on a difficult night with the winning goal in added time.

Poland will begin its European Championship journey on Sunday against the Netherlands, which beat Iceland 4-0 in its last friendly in Rotterdam.
