Libertas Livorno-Roseto, match 3: when the match directs the cheering

We are moving towards the final phase of these endless play-offs, in Roseto degli Abruzzi the two challenges ended with a victory for each team, so the double challenge in Tuscany could say a lot. In addition to the sporting result, the interest of the evening derives from the possibility of seeing two groups of fans of a certain caliber at work, an aspect that is not entirely common in basketball and moreover in Serie B.

If the temperature of the fans in these play-offs has reached very high peaks, for this match the requests for the precious ticket far exceed the maximum capacity, the race for the ticket has left out a large portion of sportsmen, a shame because the event it would have attracted an even larger part of the city which, especially in this last season, has rediscovered the desire to follow basketball. After all, Livorno has a very respectable basketball tradition, two teams that have always opposed each other in the city fabric and when in the past the merger was discussed and completed, the predictions of a battleship clashed with the will of the fans who in fact they abandoned an association that did not represent them. With Pielle out of the play offs, it’s up to Libertas to hold the city flag as they have to deal with an opponent that is anything but soft like Roseto.

Roseto also has a certain tradition in the basketball field and in fact a couple of coaches of fans as well as some private cars arrive in Tuscany from Abruzzo. These numbers are as important as the challenge: the guests settle down in a section of the building and begin singing chants for the team well before the fateful starting whistle. They are represented by a single patch in honor of the banned players, aesthetically they are quite “dry”, some flags but ultimately nothing special, while on a vocal level they animate this initial phase as if they were already playing. The participation of those present was excellent, the choirs can be heard in a building that is seething with people but in the Curva Nord it is clear that the final details are being completed for the choreography that will be shown when the teams enter the pitch. So if on the one hand we sing and support the team, on the other there is excitement to ensure that everything succeeds in the best possible way.

Hall full as an egg, Curva Nord which plays the lion’s share and overflows with passion, finally we arrive at the moment of the choreography, with a pirate galleon which is raised in the upper part and is brought to the center of the curve while the blue cards are below and amaranth take up the color of the sea and those of the company; finally the banner on the balustrade “All’arrembaggio” which frames a truly beautiful moving choreography, the Stragglers from this point of view they are unassailable.

I thought that the guests had played their cartridges too early and instead after a particularly lively pre-match, even during the match itself they expressed a nice continuous and noisy cheer; they leave little to aesthetics but focus heavily on substance, their voice never fails and on more than one occasion they manage to involve everyone present.

It may be the importance of the match, it may be the match that doesn’t go in the right direction from the start but the Curva Nord remains a step below the usual standard tonight, with the vocal support struggling to rise. Not that there is absolute silence but given the numbers on the pitch and the attitude towards cheering, it would have been right to expect a warmer environment. At the end of the third quarter the curve takes the situation in hand and all that hitherto unexpressed potential comes out: with the team behind in the score the public pushes on the accelerator, at a certain point the entire stadium is fanning the flames and to encourage the amaranths. Libertas comes within a stone’s throw of their opponents but Roseto maintains control of the match, managing to bring home an important victory in view of the next match, which at this point could prove decisive.

So much euphoria in the away team which contrasts with the disappointment of the home crowd, aware of having thrown away a splendid opportunity to bring the match in their favor but aware of having played a game under pace. As the locals leave the arena, the chants of the guests who just don’t want to end their ordeal continue to echo.
