‘Livio Neri’s Playground’ reaches its tenth edition. On 29 and 30 June the outdoor court of the Minipalazzetto in the Ippodromo area will host the now well-established 3-on-3 basketball tournament dedicated to the memory of Livio Neri, a player and coach from Cesena who passed away prematurely. It is organized by old friends, those with whom Livio grew up, in the gym in the winter and on the pitch in the summer when, with the sun beating down and grazed knees, you can feel the true love for the game. In fact, the hard core of the members comes from there, from that group of athletes who, now adults, cannot put their first love aside. And don’t think about the girlfriends of your school days, because here, on the concrete, under the net worn by the baskets, with the elbows high and the ankles veterans of a thousand battles, at the top of the list there is – and remains there – the basketball segments. Two days therefore of games and assorted challenges, such as the three-point shooting competition, in perfect NBA style, which to fully enjoy, you don’t need to be on the pitch at the Boston Garden, the ‘Minipala’ is enough. Hoping it doesn’t rain, because if it rains you go to the gym, but the playground is out there. And that’s something else. You play to win, because otherwise what game is it? But we play above all to have fun, with a playful spirit now in the DNA of those who have always known each other and which is also spreading to the new generations, like the young and very young athletes who play in the ‘Livio Neri’ nursery teams and who are they are also an integral part of the project. Playing, obviously, but also giving a hand in the setups, strengthening the team spirit. As happened on Thursday evening, after sunset: first the pitch is ‘prepared’, then we all go together to watch Game 1 of the NBA final, which is played when it is the middle of the night in Italy. But when you are young, school is over and the right friends are at your side, no one looks at the time. On June 29th and 30th there will be live music, food trucks, drinks and beers. It will be funny. And to get your abdominals back in order in time. Because it matters to score a basket more than others, but it also matters to do it with the right style. Get ready, even the best looking player is rewarded here. “We have changed the current date – explain the organizers – to avoid coinciding with other events: this tournament must only serve to have fun, not to step on others’ toes. We have enthusiasm to spare: last year through a fundraiser we had raised a sum which we promised to use in many ways, including to finalize the structure. What we were unable to complete in recent months, for example our logo and we will take care of all the maintenance details, with a declared intent: to leave the field in a way that is better than when we found it”.
