Los Angeles Lakers Should Pursue Trade for Dejounte Murray

The Lakers had tried to trade for Dejounte Murray, the Hawks point guard working for Klutch Sports Group, the agency with which LeBron James and Anthony Davis work, at the February trade deadline without success; but now they should get back to work. No matter how good of a coach JJ Redick is: he’s already said the team needs another point guard to take some of the load off James. Furthermore, Murray (78 games for Atlanta this season averaging 22.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 6.4 assists, 1.4 steals) is also an excellent defender, which doesn’t hurt. There is no plan for a winning season for Los Angeles if a reinforcement in playmaking does not arrive. The Hawks signed Murray to a four-year, $114 million extension in July 2023, where the former Spurs player will earn $24.8 million next season. In the role, the Los Angelesnians currently have D’Angelo Russell, who by June 29 must decide whether to exercise the $18,692,307 player option, or renounce and become a free agent the following day. He would likely be traded if Murray came to Los Angeles.
