Lucía Barbero Shines at National Badminton Qualifying Event in Enguera

The Valencian town of Enguera hosted a qualifying event for the national ranking in the categories of younger players. Lucía Barbero led an enthusiastic group from the Albacete Badminton Club, accompanied by Nadia Henic and Sergio Jiménez in sub-17, and María Paños, Mariela Martínez and Diego Alejandro Vizcaíno in sub-13.

Lucía Barbero achieved one of her best results, not only by becoming champion of the individual event, but also by how she achieved it by developing a great game and defeating players who are ahead of her in the national ranking. She achieved a great victory, with a two-set final, against Vega Calatayud, and she completed her performance with a silver in the doubles event, in the direct final with the Valencian Alanís Alcaide. Good performance by both Sergio and Nadia, although they did not reach the main draw.

The youngest, under-13, are developing an increasingly better game. Silver medal for the girls in the direct final of the women’s doubles and for Diego, also in the direct final of the mixed doubles event. But beyond his first medals, his desire for improvement and enthusiasm stand out.

Sara Mora and Héctor del Pozo were the two Albacete representatives in the test held in the Murcian town of San Pedro del Pinatar, a test that counted towards the national ranking in the sub-15 and senior categories. Sara reached the quarterfinals of the individual event, losing in this round to runner-up Rocío Hernández. In the doubles event, partnering with Lola Ruiz (Albarena), they could not pass the group stage.

For senior Héctor del Pozo it was his return to competition after a long time. Good taste in his mouth on his return, with three hard-fought games, a victory and very good feelings.
