Machado’s Multi-Homer Game Powers Padres to Victory Over Red Sox

Manny Machado hit two homers and drove in five runs, Jackson Merrill and Brett Sullivan also hit the long ball to lead the San Diego Padres to their second straight victory against the Boston Red Sox, 11-1 on Saturday.

It was the fifth straight victory and ninth in 10 games for San Diego (46-41), which is five games over .500 for the first time this season.

Jarren Duran hit a solo home run for the Red Sox, who lost a third straight game.

Machado recorded his 40th career multi-homer game, hitting a two-run homer out of Fenway Park in the third inning and a three-run homer to center during a six-run fifth inning.

When he rounded the bases after his second homer, which made the score 8-0, the cries of “Manny!” Manny! » echoed around Fenway from the many Padres fans.

Red Sox starter Tanner Houck (7-6) hit eight runs, seven earned, in 4.1 innings on his 28th birthday. The three homers allowed were a career high. His ERA improved from 2.18 to 2.67 in one game.

For the second straight game, the Padres had a big fifth inning to take control. Their six-run surge made it 10-0.

On Friday, they scored all their runs in the fifth inning in a 9-2 victory. This is only the second victory for the Padres in nine games against the Red Sox.

Michael King (6-5) rebounded from a rough start in his previous outing, allowing one run and five hits in six innings. He gave up five runs in his last start, taking the loss Sunday against Milwaukee.

Merrill reached the Green Monster seats to make it 4-0 in the fourth as Sullivan hit his first home run of the season.

Boston first baseman Dominic Smith pitched the ninth scoreless, allowing only a single to Luis Arraez on a pitch timed at 31.9 mph.

Boston had no luck with its bright yellow and powder blue uniform (City Connect). Before the game, the Red Sox were 18-5 in this uniform.

It’s the first time the teams have met in a series at Fenway since 2013.

PHI : Aaron Nola (9-4) suffered the defeat despite striking out nine times in six and two-thirds innings of work.

Cubs 5 – Milwaukee 3
CHC :
Ian Happ made the difference with a two-run homer in the eighth inning.
MIL : Brice Turang had two hits and stole his 28th base of the season.

Washington 8 – Tampa Bay 1

CJ Abrams hit his 13th home run of the season. He drove in two runs and scored two runs.
TB  : Brandon Lowe drove in the Rays’ lone run with a solo shot.

Cleveland 7 – Kansas City 2

Jose Ramirez drove in two runs, including one on a solo homer. He now has 75 RBIs this season.
KC  : Vinnie Pasquantino and Michael Massey hit solo long balls.

ARI : Zac Gallen allowed just one hit, in addition to striking out seven batters, in six innings of work.

Pittsburgh 1 – Atlanta 2 (10 rounds)

With a sacrifice fly, Edward Olivares produced the Pirates’ only point.
ATL : Adam Duvall drove in the winning run with a single in the 10th, Jarred Kelenic (9) homered in the first inning.

Los Angeles Dodgers 14 – San Francisco 7 (11 manches)
LAD :
The Dodgers went on a seven-run run in the 11th inning to secure the victory.
SF : Matt Chapman had three hits, including his 21st double of the season.

Texas 5 – Baltimore 6
TEX :
Corey Seager hit a solo home run, but left the game after being hit in the hand.
BAL : Anthony Santander hit his 22nd home run of the season, his 13th in June.

Detroit 5 – Los Angeles Angels 6 (10 sleeves)

Jake Rogers drove in three runs, including two on a long home run in the sixth inning.
LAA : Kevin Pillar gave the Angels the victory in the bottom of the 10th inning.
