The Bundesliga neighbors from Hünstetten and Mainz will meet three times this week. The derby series started on Wednesday evening with a catch-up game in the Mainz Ballpark on Hartmühlenweg. With a total of 22 runs, the game, which was officially a home game for Hünstetten, had a lot to offer the spectators. The game ended after just 7 innings under the 10-run rule with a clear 16:6 in favor of the Mainz Athletics.

Will Kilgore opened the scoring festival in the 2nd inning with a solo home run. But the A’s continued to push hard in this inning and scored a total of five more runs, including a 2-RBI double by Kenny Fermin Giere.

In the third and fifth innings, Mainz increased the score by a total of three runs. Peter Johannessen and Will Kilgore each hit a solo home run, thereby extending their team’s lead.

In the 6th inning, STORM briefly reduced the score to 2:9 with two runs. But in the 7th inning, the Athletics followed on and added seven more runs to the scoreboard. A two-run home run by Peter Saldana and a three-run home run by Carl Feldmann are particularly notable. STORM was able to score four more runs when they tried to score in the 7th inning, but the game could not be prevented from ending prematurely due to the 10-run rule.

Both teams will meet again at the same place this weekend. The A’s will host their neighbours from Hünstetten on Friday at 7 p.m. and on Saturday at 1 p.m.
