Makro has a new 100% electric truck on its last mile distribution routes in Pamplona |

Makro, a leading company in multichannel wholesale distribution to the hospitality industry, has begun operating with a 100% electric truck on the last mile routes of its Hospitality Distribution Service in the city of Pamplona. This electric truck joins eleven others that the company has on the urban routes of Palma, Madrid, Barcelona, Málaga, San Sebastián, Bilbao, Vitoria and soon in Santander.

This decision represents a step forward for Makro in the decarbonisation of its last-mile logistics and its commitment to sustainable growth, which is a fundamental part of its global sustainability strategy for 2024. The company’s new electric fleet will reduce the carbon footprint of Makro’s distribution operations by more than 100 tonnes of CO2 per year – around 8,400kg of CO2 per truck per year – which will have a positive impact on the areas in which it operates, reducing not only environmental but also noise pollution. In the case of Pamplona, the electric fleet will mean an estimated annual saving of 8,400kg of CO2.

“As leaders in multichannel wholesale distribution to the hospitality industry, at Makro we assume the responsibility of leading by example by making decisions that reduce the impact of our operations on the environment and, at the same time, can inspire others to do so. “This commitment to environmentally friendly transport reinforces our commitment to sustainable growth, the environment and the communities in which we operate, a commitment for which we have developed a sustainability strategy integrated transversally into our business model,” says Eduardo López-Puertas, director of Comprehensive Supply Chain at Makro Spain.

For this commitment to sustainable mobility, Makro has trusted Transporte Inmediato, its main last-mile transportation provider in Spain and the person in charge of this acquisition from JAC Motors Iberia. The new 100% electric fleet with which Makro will operate has a real range of more than 200 km with the refrigeration equipment in operation all day, or 230 km with a dry box. In addition to saving CO2 emissions, it does not emit noise, which is a great advance in achieving safer, quieter and healthier cities.
