Man Arrested for Climbing on Stadium Roof During Euro Round of 16 Match

A man was arrested during the night from Saturday to Sunday in Dortmund, after climbing on the roof of the stadium where the round of 16 of the Euro between Germany, the host country, and Denmark (2-0) was taking place. He had gone up to the roof during half-time, hooded and carrying a backpack. More than half an hour after the end of the match, the police cleared a path to be able to arrest the person in complete safety.

German police said there was no political motivation for the act in a statement released overnight. “The person arrested is 21 years old and is from Osnabrück. At present, there is no indication that the man intended to endanger spectators at the stadium by his behavior,” it said.

“According to initial findings, the 21-year-old wanted to take photos from the roof of the stadium, as he had already done in several places in Germany. He had photographic equipment in his bag,” the police added in the afternoon.
