Chiapas judoka María Fernanda Cruz Bolón made her second international appearance for Mexico this year, at the Lima 2024 Junior Pan American Cup, finishing in seventh place in the -63 kilogram category. The tournament was organized by the Peruvian Judo Sports Federation and was held at Sports Center 1 of the National Sports Village.
Unfortunately for the Chiapas native, who arrived ranked fifth in her category (52 in the world), she lost in her first match of the round of 32 against the fourth seed, the Brazilian María Clara Lima da Silva Avelino (45 in the world), who would eventually become the champion.
In her second challenge, which was in the repechage stage, she won against the Chilean Javiera Soto (116). However, in her second repechage she fell against the Brazilian Anna Julia Sperling (92 in the world), which left her out of any possibility of aspiring to a medal.
However, María Fernanda added 16 more points to the world ranking in her category, after finishing in seventh place in the tournament, which had 13 registered fighters from various nations, such as the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Colombia and Peru.
It is worth remembering that in April of this year, the gold medalist in the CONADE 2024 National Games had achieved a brilliant performance in the Pan American and Oceania Junior Championships, held in Brazil, where she obtained the bronze medal and 80 points that catapulted her more than 100 positions up in your division.
Finally, it is worth noting that the contest held in Peru had participants in three categories, as the cadet and open sectors were also active, with the junior sector being the most attended, with a total of 132 athletes from 14 different countries.
