Martinican Judoka Olivier Desroses to Officiate at Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Martinican Olivier Desroses, black belt, 4th dan in judo, has been selected to officiate at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. After Tokyo in Japan in 2021, he will be on the tatami as an international referee.

This passion has driven him since his childhood. Olivier Desroses, born in Orléans to Martinican parents, arrived in Guyana at the age of 3 in the Cogneau-Larivot district of Matoury, a booming town.

The youngest of the family, Olivier did his primary education in Cayenne and discovered judo at the age of 11 at the Saint-Joseph day school and at the Seiryoku Samouraï directed by Urbain Belliard.

His ability to work allows talent scout Serge Antourel, Antilles-Guyana technical advisor to direct him towards a Sports-Studies section in Orléans.

Upon his arrival from Guyana, Olivier Desroses joined the Pôle France Judo d’Orléans in 1991 and two years later the University Sport Section.

Then begins his arbitration journey. 1994 as departmental, then two years later regional referee. In 1999, he became an interregional referee. Once he climbs the ladder, the doors to high level open the road to success.

Promoted to national referee in 2003, he became European in 2011 and world referee in 2015.

Since his appointment, Olivier Desrose has been called upon for many high-level events: European Cups, European Championships in all categories (veterans, cadets, juniors, seniors), Opens, European Youth Olympic Festivals, Grand Prix and slams.

Mathieu Bataille and Olivier Desroses are the two French referees selected for 2024.
