Historic center, coast, prevention services, macro and micro crime: a formal but very intense and fruitful conversation was held yesterday between the mayor of Fondi Beniamino Maschietto and the new Police Commissioner Fausto Vinci. Two months after his inauguration, after receiving a welcome note from the mayor, the highest representative of the State Police in the province of Latina visited Fondi together with the local representative, the deputy commissioner and commander of the Largo police station Evangelist Raffaele Iasi.
“The presence of the Police Commissioner in Fondi – commented Mayor Maschietto – as well as his willingness to dialogue and his desire to get to know the territories closely, discussing with me as well as with my colleagues from the other Pontine municipalities, is a very important signal . I would like to take this opportunity to reiterate that discussions with the police, even if they are often closed-door meetings that take place in the strictest secrecy, are constant and intense. For us mayors, being able to speak daily with the Police Commissioner and his deputy is very important and reassuring.
A bit like when, even if plainclothes controls are the order of the day, people perceive more safety if they see men and women in uniform, in the historic center, as on the coast. Seeing an officer will not help identify a criminal but it can certainly discourage small and unpleasant episodes such as a car theft while relaxing at the seaside or an episode of drug dealing in the alleys. For this reason I would like to thank Vinci, Iasi and all the men and women on the front line every day despite the considerable logistical, organizational and personnel difficulties”.
The mayor, in listening and expressing a series of reflections and observations on the general framework of security in the City of Fondi, also expressed appreciation for the imminent transfer of the police station to the premises in Viale Piemonte al Mof which should take place in the new year .
