Medal whirlwind of swimmers. Seemanová won gold at the European Championships, Janíčková added silver, Gracík bronze

Seeman dominated the final and won the European gold for the second time in her career after her triumph in the 200m freestyle three years ago. “It was very nice to feel the speed that I found in myself. After three years, a record time in the 100 again,” said Seemanová, for whom this is the first medal from a major event in a discipline other than the 200, which she mainly focuses on. “Hopefully everything is a good start to what’s still waiting for me here,” she added.

Barbora Janíčková, whose medal is a first-class sensation, finished right behind her on the crawling 100. She pushed her personal best to 54.17, which guaranteed her a lifetime silver position. “I am absolutely thrilled. The medal is the icing on the cake of the absolutely great times I was able to swim here. I don’t want to shout anything, but the form is probably there,” explained the 24-year-old Janíčková.

Daniel Gracík took care of the first men’s medal at the EC after twenty-seven years quite unexpectedly, when he reached the bronze from the butterfly 50. He finished third in 23.26, just two hundredths off his own national record. “I admit that I wanted to grab the pancake. It turned out really great for me,” said the swimmer, who will try to swim the missing Olympic limit in the 100m.

Without anyone wanting to diminish the achievements of the Czech representatives in the Serbian capital, it is worth remembering that swimming powerhouses such as the Netherlands, France and Great Britain are not participating in this year’s European championship, which takes place just five weeks before the start of the Olympics.

However, Kristýna Horská secured another final participation for the Czech team, who improved her personal record to 1:07.72 and advanced to Wednesday’s medal race in the 100 breaststroke with the fifth time. “I am really very satisfied, I managed to push the limit of my personal maximum after four years,” said Horská, for whom the main discipline should be the 200m at the weekend. “I feel much more natural there, so otherwise quite a pleasant surprise,” she added.

On the other hand, Daryná Nabojčenko failed to open the final gate on Tuesday evening in the women’s 50 m butterfly. Although she improved by two tenths of a second from the morning heat, her semi-final time of 26.58 means a final ninth place and an alternate position for the medal race. Fifteen hundredths separated her from progress.
