Mexican Archers Valencia-Grande to Compete for Bronze Medal in Antalya, Turkey

Editorial.- Matías Grande from Guanajuato, along with Alejandra Valencia, will fight this Sunday in Antalya, Turkey, for the bronze medal, when they face India on the III date of the Archery World Cup.

Valencia-Grande won gold in South Korea and remained on the podium in China where, by the way, they fell to the representatives of India, with whom they will fight this Sunday for bronze in the mixed recurve bow modality.

“We have remained one of the most consistent teams this season,” said Guanajuato representative Matías Grande.

This Friday, the Mexican duo left Turkey on the road in the second round by a score of 5-3, then in the quarterfinal stage, they beat Ukraine 5-1, but in the semifinal they fell 4- 5 against Japan in a tiebreaker.

«I can say that we are happy with this result. We couldn’t get to the gold match, but we are going for bronze against India,” said the Santiago 2023 Pan American champion.

At 20 years old, the national goalkeeper is seeking the podium in his debut at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and his journey through the three stages of the World Cup series has been productive.

At the Tokyo Olympics, Mexico won bronze in the same category with Alejandra Valencia from Sonora and Luis Álvarez from Baja California. And now in Paris 2024 Matías Grande wants to get on the podium with Valencia.

“We are focused at all times, also thinking about Paris as if it were just another World Cup,” the competitor added to World Achery.

Just last week, Grande, Carlos Rojas and Bruno Martínez achieved Olympic qualification in this same scenario, “we are not thinking about what could happen in Paris, we are thinking about what we can do in this entire process.”
