Mexican Compound Archery Teams Shine in World Cup Series Opening Rounds

With an outstanding participation in the qualifying rounds, the national compound archery teams opened the activities on the second date of the 2024 World Cup Series, held in Yecheon, South Korea.

Dafne Quintero, Maya Becerra, Esmeralda Sánchez, Sebastián García, Juan Del Río and Máximo Méndez competed in the individual, team and mixed group events, which they passed satisfactorily to advance to the elimination phase.

Quintero ranked ninth with 704 points, Becerra fourteenth with 702 points and Sánchez twenty-sixth with 690 points. The first two automatically fought the first duels, while Sánchez will face Nhu Nguyen, from Vietnam, for his place in the round of 32.

Together, the three Mexican women took fourth place overall and went directly to the quarterfinals, where they will face the Turkish Hazal Burun, Ayse Suzer and Begum Yuva.

The men’s branch will start from the round of 64 in the individual event: García against the Frenchman Victor Bouleau, Del Río against the Slovenian Tim Jevsnik and Méndez against the Italian Elia Fregnan. As a team, they will play the round of 16 against the French Bouleau, Nicolas Girard and Adrien Gontier.

Dafne Quintero and Sebastián García joined forces to obtain fifth place overall for mixed teams, and in their first elimination match they will meet the Filipinos Amparo Cojuangco and Johan Olano.

The compound bow specialists will take to the shooting range on the second day of actions to face the group qualifiers, and the recurve bow specialists will do the same for the classification in the three events (individual, teams and mixed teams).
