The Mexican couple won the gold medal in the second stage of the World Cup of the specialty in Yecheon, South Korea

The Mexican mixed recurve archery couple scored a valuable victory on their way to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Alejandra Valencia and Matías Grande took the gold medal in the second stage of the Archery World Cup in Yecheon, South Korea.

The Mexicans defeated the Japanese couple made up of Ruka Uehara and Junya Nakanishi in the final with a score of 6-2.

“We are going to continue working hard and we are pleased that there is progress in our performance, this is paying off,” declared Matías Grande after the victory.

Mexico entered the competition with a 6-0 victory over Iran, in the Quarterfinals it left Chinese Taipei (Lei Chien-Ying and Tang Chih-Chun) on the road with a resounding 6-2, however, in the Semifinal they beat Spain 5-4 (20-18) (Elia Canales and Andrés Temiño) to earn their ticket to the Final.

Spain took bronze after beating France 5-3 in the duel for third place.

Alejandra Valencia will compete in her fourth Olympic Games after participating in London 2012, Rio de Janeiro 2016 and Tokyo 2020, where she won the bronze medal in the mixed team of recurve archery with Luis Álvarez after beating Turkey with a score of 6-2.
