Chicago, United States.- It seems that the problem that afflicts pitcher Mexican Javier Assad and that has not allowed him to shine like at the start of the 2024 campaign Major League Baseball (MLB)has a first and last name: Tendinitis in the extensor of the right forearm.

The Tijuana native will be out of action for at least 15 days

This Thursday, the team of the Tijuana pitcher, the Chicago Cubsannounced that their right-handed starter will be placed in the list of injured of 15 days with this condition, which has prevented him from winning a game in his last seven outings.

The Mexican Assad, 26 years old, has a mark of 4-3 with a 3.04 ERA in 16 starts for the Cubs this season.

It is located in its third campaign with the ninth from the ‘Windy City’ with whom he has a record of 11-8 and an ERA of 3.05, and 203 chocolates in 34 games, both in relief work and as a starter.

At this point, it’s unclear how serious Assad’s injury is or how long the club expects him to be out of action, but it will be a blow for them regardless.

Assad has made 16 starts for the club so far this year. There’s probably a bit of good luck in that number, as Assad’s 83.3 percent batting average and .276 batting average on balls in play are on the lucky side.

Without Assad, the Cubs’ rotation consists of Kyle HendricksJustin Steele , Jameson Taillon and Shota Imanaga.

While he recovers, the Mexican pitcher’s place in the Bear Cubs’ rotation will be occupied by the right-hander as well. Vinny Nittoliwho signed a pact of Big leagues con Chicago.

Nittoli, 33, played in seven games, all in relief, for the A’s this year, posting a 2.25 ERA in eight innings. In 20 appearances for Triple-A Las Vegas, the right-hander was 3-1 with three saves, a 2.70 ERA and 36 strikeouts (13.89 K/9).

Another loss for the Chicago squad is that of the Dominican right-hander Yency Almonte (shoulder), who was transferred to the 60-day injured list.

Almonte, 30, was originally placed on the 15-day injured list on May 8.
