Morelia, Mich.- The United States ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, confirmed this Monday the resumption of the export of avocado and mango from Michoacán to the United States.

At the same time, the Secretary of Agriculture, Víctor Villalobos Arambula, stated that to avoid a new suspension in the marketing of the so-called “green gold”, it was proposed to the United States government to replace North American inspectors with Mexicans.

At a press conference, held jointly with Governor Alfredo Ramírez at Casa Michoacán, the diplomat indicated that for a week he had been talking with the authorities of Michoacán to resume the activity, but other issues were also discussed, such as the environment. and labor formality.

“We are aligned with Mexico, we are on the right path and with the Embassy team, we are aligned for what is required in food, beer, avocado and tequila, which is part of what we share as a family,” said Ken Salazar.

He stated that in addition to security, the issue of the environment also continues to be evaluated due to issues such as forest fires and deforestation, as well as labor formality, as he noted, the T-MEC is not only measured by exports, but by the quality of life of workers.

He acknowledged that the aggression suffered by the US inspectors on June 14 worried the Embassy, ”since our job is to protect our citizens,” but he noted that during the meeting with state and federal authorities a commitment was established to maintain permanent special security plan.

For his part, the secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture at the federal level, Víctor Manuel Villalobos, pointed out that replacing the US inspectors who work in Mexico with national ones is also being analyzed.
