MLB Players Association Accuses Bad Bunny’s Sports Agency of Violating Rules

The Players Association Major League Baseball (MLBPA) of the United States has launched serious accusations against Rimas Sportsa sports agency founded by the famous singer Bad Bunny and his manager Noah Assad. According to a report by The Athleticthe MLBPA has alleged “a series of serious violations” of the rules established for baseball agents.

In a recent court filing, the MLBPA detailed that Rimas Sports offered improper incentives to the baseball players he sought to represent. These incentives included a $200,000 interest-free loan, a $19,500 gift, and VIP tickets for Bad Bunny concerts, which violates union rules.

Rimas Sports was founded in 2023 by Bad Bunnywhose real name is Benito MartinezWith Noah Assad y Jonathan Miranda. The agency defines itself as an organization dedicated to managing the careers of the next great Latin American athletes. However, to operate legally as a baseball agent in the US, it is mandatory to obtain certification from the MLBPA.

In April, the MLBPA I certified Rimas’ agent, William Arroyo, and blocked Assad and Miranda from becoming certified agents. Rimas Sports described this decision as a “death penalty” for its company. The union justified its action by discovering that the agency had offered “improper incentives to dozens of players” and employed non-certified people to perform agent tasks.

Rimas appealed these decisions, but an arbitrator backed the union’s position, rejecting the agency’s appeal. In response, Rimas Sports filed a lawsuit alleging that the union’s investigation was “discriminatory, biased and predetermined” with the goal of “permanently shutting down Rimas Sports.”

In its countersuit, the MLBPA provided more details about the allegations, including the offer of access VIP at Bad Bunny concerts as an incentive for players to join the agency. The arbitrator who evaluated the initial appeal noted that Rimas’s strategy appeared to be to “lure players with prohibited gifts.”

The MLBPA maintains that this dispute should not be resolved in court and that Rimas’ legal action should be dismissed. Additionally, the union alleged that, once notified of the investigation, Arroyo, Assad and Miranda employed uncertified personnel to continue violating union regulations.

According to the MLBPA, Bad Bunny is a “semi-passive investor” in Rimas Sports and is not directly involved in the legal dispute. The situation continues to develop as both parties face each other in the legal field, with the future of Rimas Sports hanging in the balance.
