MLB Umpire Disqualified for Betting on Games

ROME – Major League Baseball (MLB) has disqualified umpire Pat Hoberg for betting on some league games. As IGB writes, Hoberg – active in the world of baseball from 2014 to 2022 – did not manipulate matches where he umpired, but was guilty of match-fixing on other matches.

According to MLB rules, umpires, athletes and registered team personnel who bet on baseball are punished with a one-year ban. A sanction that becomes lifelong if the bet takes place on a match in which one is directly involved, as happened to the former Venezuelan infielder of the San Diego Padres, Tucupita Marcano, disqualified at the beginning of June.
