Austria’s former team player Ivica Vastic has lost his status as the oldest goalscorer in European Championship history since Monday. Croatia’s captain Luka Modric scored the 1-0 goal (final score 1-1) in the 55th minute of the Group B match against Italy in Leipzig, and he did so at the age of 38 years and 289 days.

Vastic was 38 years and 257 days old when he scored the 1-1 goal from a penalty in the 93rd minute of the 2008 home tournament against Poland. However, Modric could still be replaced in Germany by Portugal’s Ronaldo, among others.
