Mohammedan Sporting Club is the current champion of the Calcutta Football League and I-League.
The 2024-25 Indian football season begins on June 25, 2024, with the Calcutta Football League 2024, which pits defending champions Mohammedan Sports Club against Wari Athletic Club at Kishore Bharati Krirangan.
One of the first football leagues to be played in India is the Calcutta Football League (CFL), which currently sits fifth in the pyramid. Mohammedan Sporting Club, the second oldest club after Mohun Bagan, pioneered the cultivation of Indian football.
In 1933 they were promoted for the first time in the Calcutta Football League and in 1934 they won their first CFL title. Later, in 1938, they became the first club to win the title five times in a row.
Last season, during the 2023-24 tournament, Mohammedan SC lifted its first I-League trophy. Alongside the historic victory, they also triumphed in the Calcutta First Division ‘A’ with David Lalhlansanga emerging as their highest scorer.
The Black Panthers won their first three CFL games, including a 7–0 victory over Calcutta FC in which David Lalhlansanga scored three goals. Diamond Harbor FC ended their winning streak, which served as a wake-up call for Chernyshov’s team to improve their performance.
The Black Panthers advanced to the Super Six after winning six of their eight group stage games and drawing the other. Mohammedan SC won 2-1 over East Bengal and ended the match with Mohun Bagan Super Giant in a dramatic 2-2 draw before finally being crowned Premier Division ‘A’ 2023 champions.
