National champions bring sports to island rural primary schools, “Public Welfare Sports Lottery Happy Playground” event kicks off
On June 29, when brand-new sports equipment appeared in the physical education classrooms in mountainous areas, when national champions helped children realize their sports wishes, and when trendy youth sports such as rugby, roller skating, and golf entered the recess of teenagers on the island of Dongtou, Wenzhou, it meant that the 2024 Zhejiang Province “Public Welfare Sports Lottery Happy Playground” event kicked off.
During the event, Yang Zhiyuan, the national badminton champion and member of the Zhejiang provincial team, and several coaches from Huanglong gave a special physical education class to the students of Dongping Central Primary School in badminton, football, basketball, street dance, roller skating, golf, flag football and other sports.
“One, two, three, swing!” Yang Zhiyuan, who was acting as a guest coach, was very patient and carefully corrected the children’s grip and swing movements, as if she saw herself when she was a child. “The children are very enthusiastic and very eager to learn.” Considering that the sea breeze was relatively strong that day, she deliberately broke down the swing movement into four parts to teach the children so that they could easily master the basic skills. Yang Zhiyuan said that she hoped that this activity could fully mobilize the enthusiasm of young people, let them enter badminton and fall in love with sports.
For many students, this was their first time to experience golf and flag football. When holding the golf club he saw on TV, 13-year-old Liang Xiaolong was a little bit unbelievable, “On TV, they seemed to play very easily, but in reality, they found it was quite difficult. I didn’t even make a hole after the experience.” Xiaolong, who is about to enter junior high school, said that he would like to try more new sports in the future.
It is worth mentioning that before the event, the Zhejiang Youth Development Foundation donated sports equipment worth 50,000 yuan from the Sports Lottery Public Welfare Fund to the school, and a caring enterprise in Hangzhou also donated large sports equipment worth 30,000 yuan, planting the seeds of sports in the children and giving wings to their sports dreams. In addition, three students completed their “Sports Micro Wishes”.
It is understood that this year’s “Public Welfare Sports Lottery Happy Playground” will select four representative mountainous and island counties in Zhejiang Province, bring high-quality sports and medical resources from the provincial capital to the local area, pay attention to the physical health of rural youth, promote the integration of sports and education, so as to achieve balanced development of high-quality sports public services and gather strength for the common prosperity of Zhejiang.
