National Women’s Judo Team Prepares for Paris 2024 in Bardonecchia

THE OLYMPIC JUDO WOMEN IN TRAINING IN BARDONECCHIA

BARDONECCHIA – There will also be a bit of Bardonecchia at the next Paris 2024 Olympics. In fact, there are several athletes leaving for the French capital, who have chosen the location of Alta Val Susa for a few days of pre-Olympic retreat. Starting with the national modern pentathlon team, which has already arrived in the Val Susina town and is busy training. Then the national women’s Judo team is expected with Odette Giuffrida, reigning world champion from Abu Dhabi 2024 and bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, after having won silver at the Rio Games. “Once again great sport is the protagonist in Bardonecchia – says the vice mayor and councilor for sport Vittorio Montabone – We are happy to welcome important names from the various disciplines and there will be many, during the summer season, athletes who will honor us with their presence . Our commitment to making Bardonecchia a welcoming location for those who play sports at different levels is going in the right direction.” On Wednesday 26 June, at 6pm, at the Palazzo delle Feste, there will be a moment of meeting and signing of the National Women’s Judo Team with residents and tourists of Bardonecchia.

THE FEDERATION

The Italian Judo Wrestling Karate Martial Arts Federation, also known by the acronym FIJLKAM, is a sports organization affiliated with CONI. It was founded on 18 January 1902 in Milan by the Marquis Luigi Monticelli Obizzi, who was also its first president. Initially it dealt with wrestling and weight lifting, and then extended to various martial arts. FIJLKAM is one of the oldest federations and is an integral part of the history of Italian sport with 3000 affiliated clubs, 135,000 athletes and 3,000 technical teachers. In addition to judō, wrestling and karate, it manages aikidō, jujutsu, sumo, grappling-Brazilian jiu-jitsu and mixed martial arts (MMA). The federation has always represented Italy, and has obtained 13 gold, 11 silver and 20 bronze in Olympic competitions, which enrich a vast medal collection with around 600 medals won at the Mediterranean Games, at the European Championships, at the World Championships and at the World Games. The president of the federation was Matteo Pellicone (1935-2013) for 32 years (from 1981 to 2013). Since 2013 the president has been Domenico Falcone. Since 2021, Davide Benetello has been appointed Filjlkam vice president of the Karate sector.
