Navigating the Ups and Downs: Cole Anthony’s Complicated Season and Mental Health Focus

After signing a three-year, $39 million contract extension last October, Cole Anthony had a complicated season.

Announced as a possible candidate for the title of best sixth man at the start of the campaign, the fullback ultimately saw his playing time drop, and therefore also his points average.

In his fourth season in Orlando, he was still able to finally discover the thrill of the playoffs, with this highly contested first round against Cleveland, lost after the seventh round. But there too, it was complicated on an individual level (5 points at 32% on shots including 15% at 3-points)…

“It was good, for sure, even if I didn’t play as well as I wanted! But it was good to be in the playoffs. I feel really lucky to be where I am. And especially with the people around me: the players, the coaches, the front office, this whole environment. I’m already looking forward to next season. »

“The most important thing for me is to take care of my mental health”

Fourth best scorer in the League coming off the bench (with 937 points in total), including a peak of 30 points, and twenty games with 20 points or more, Cole Anthony still contributed to the Magic’s rebound. Above all, he only missed one small match this season, even if he often seemed to play injured…

“I will work on everything [cet été] »he declared on the Magic website. “The most important thing for me is to take care of my mental health. I need to talk about it and do everything I can to have as few distractions as possible next year. I’m going to be in the gym a lot to work hard, but that’s the base. »

Freely admitting that he has experienced many ups and downs, and a crisis of confidence in the playoffs, Cole Anthony promises that he will not let himself be discouraged like this next season.

“We really weren’t far from passing this first round, so I think it will motivate everyone in the team. It’s something that will stay with us for a while. It was really a great experience,” he concludes. “I think we all understood the importance of each game, and how important home advantage can be in the playoffs. We have never taken any match lightly this season but even more so next season, we are going to be even more serious about grabbing as many victories as possible to have home field advantage in the playoffs. »
