The first lap of the Draft NBA 2024, for the first time spread over two days. The Atlant Hawks selected with the first overall pick Zaccharie Risacher, 19 year old Frenchman from JL Bourg. For the second year in a row the first choice comes from the transalpine league, after last year the San Antonio Spurs chose Victor Wembanyama. Risacher, 206 centimeters and just under 90kg, looks a lot like the modern NBA wing, excelling from 3-point shooting and with good physical mobility that allows him to be an excellent perimeter defender. Last season he averaged 10.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per game, raising his statistics in the EuroCup (13.1 points and 3.6 rebounds on average, shooting an astonishing 56.1% from three).
Instead, the Washington Wizards selected pick number two Alex Sarr, a 213cm French center from the Perth Wildcats, an Australian team. In a constant run-off with Risacher, Sarr finally slipped to 2 and Washington, where he will immediately have the chance to carve out a leading role for himself.
At number three it is the turn of Reed Sheppard, play/guard coming out of the University of Kentucky. Last NCAA season he averaged 12.5 points (53.6%), 4.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists in 28.9 minutes.
