NBA Luxury Tax, Warriors (176.9 million) top the rankings for 2023/24

ESPN’s Bobby Marks recently shared the list of NBA teams that finished the 2023/24 season above the Luxury Tax threshold.

There are 8 franchises, Warriors first with an additional expense of around 176.9 million dollars. Following in order are the Clippers (142.4 M), Suns (68.2), Bucks (52.5), Celtics (43.8), Nuggets (20.2), Heat (15.7) and Lakers (6.9).

In total they are over 526 million dollars.

According to the reporter’s calculations, each of the 22 teams not in the Luxury Tax will receive just under 12 million each.

Curiously, the team that paid the most is also the only one of the 8 left out of the main playoffs draw.

The story is different for the Celtics, in their second consecutive year in Luxury after paying for it only once from 2013 to 2022.

Warriors, Clippers, Lakers and Bucks have been over the threshold for 4 years, Nuggets, Suns and Celtics for 2, while for the Heat it is the first time since 2019.
