NBA Rumor: Jamal Murray to extend contract with Denver Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets are close to extending point guard Jamal Murray’s contract, reports Shams Charania. It is said to be the maximum possible four-year contract worth $209 million.

Murray won the title alongside MVP Nikola Jokic with the Nuggets in the 2022/23 season. This year, they lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in seven games.

The 27-year-old Canadian Murray still had a year left on his contract. Last season, he played 59 times in the regular season due to injuries. He also played in the playoffs with injuries, alternating between good and bad performances.

Meanwhile, winger Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is said to have turned down his player option for the upcoming season with the Nuggets. This means that the 31-year-old will become a free agent. He could still re-sign with the Nuggets, but that also depends on the offers from the competition.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, this is probably why the Nuggets are trading point guard Reggie Jackson along with three second-round picks to the Charlotte Hornets. This will save Jackson’s salary of $5.25 million.
