In the only encounter in the softball national league last weekend, the Neunkirchen Nightmares were guests in the capital at the SCC Challengers. The Neunkirchen girls were able to secure two victories (7:2 and 12:8).
The first game started on equal terms. The Challengers countered a 2-0 lead by the Nightmares in the first half inning with one run each in the first and second innings. In the third inning, the guests took the lead again after a 2RBI double by import player Whitney Shepherd and extended it with two runs in the fifth and one run in the sixth inning. The home team, however, could not score any more points, so the Nightmares won the first game 7-2.
The second game offered the approximately 60 spectators in the ballpark of the Hans Rosenthal sports complex in Berlin-Charlottenburg a lot more excitement. The guests started the game strongly and took an early lead with a 3-run home run by Meret Willeke. As the first half of the game progressed, both teams were able to score points in almost every inning. The Challengers took the lead for the first time after a 5-run run in the 4th inning. But the guests did not let this dampen their motivation. With a total of 6 runs in the last three innings and no hits against them, the Nightmares secured a double victory against the Challengers.
There are 14 games scheduled for the upcoming weekend in the Softball Bundesliga. On Saturday, Wesseling will host the Cologne Cardinals (1:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.), the Stuttgart Reds will visit the Karlsruhe Cougars (1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.) and the SCC Challengers will meet the Goose-Necks in Ratingen (12:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.). On Sunday, the games will be between the Neunkirchen Nightmares and Bonn Capitals (12:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.), Wesseling Vermins and SCC Berlin Challengers (12:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.), Freising Grizzlies and Guggenberger Legionären (1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.) and Tübingen Hawks and Mannheim Tornados (1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.).
