NFL Teams Up with Hallmark to Create Romcom Inspired by Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Romance

The National Football League (NFL) continues to reap the (economic) benefits of the romance between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. This time, the league teamed up with the Hallmark company, which originally sold greeting cards and has now expanded into television production, to create a romcom with a “magic of Christmas” backdrop.

This upcoming Christmas TV movie will be called Holiday Touchdown, A Chiefs Love Story, as reported Entertainment Weekly. And the synopsis is enough to make fans of the football player and his pop star companion smile.

The plot will focus on a love story between a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs – Travis Kelce’s team – and the team’s director of fan relations. If the occupations of the main characters do not correspond to those of the singer and the American football champion, the league nevertheless took care to feature Travis Kelce’s team, winner of the last Super Bowl, and to offer its spectators a love story close to that of the famous lovebirds.

Love and more love

For Hallmark CEO Darren Abbott, this collaboration between the NFL and the channel was born from their shared “values” despite their different centers of activity.

“By combining the sweetness of Hallmark stories with the excitement of professional football, we’re excited to offer audiences a inside look into the spirit of this community, its traditions and the passion of Kansas City fans – all wrapped in the heartwarming and uplifting Hallmark way,” he said.

A real gold mine

However, there is no doubt that the two groups have grasped the immense advertising and financial potential behind the highly publicized romance of Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift, who is continuing her Eras Tour.

The NFL has seen a whole new generation of spectators arrive at matches in the stands, and more particularly female spectators who are now passionate about American football matches. Furthermore, Taylor Swift’s appearances in the stands cause audience peaks on the TV side, which increases the value of the ad break accordingly.

At the start of the year, less than six months after the couple formed by Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce became official, some estimated the singer’s impact at more than $330 million in additional revenue for the league.
