NHL | Nečas wants to be among the key players. I’m ready for anything, he says about the future in the NHL

In the Hurricanes, he scored 18 points less than last season. Time on the ice decreased as the season progressed. He hardly played key situations under coach Rod Brind’Amour. There is a lot of speculation overseas about Nečas’ transfer to another club. There is talk of Philadelphia or Chicago. In any case, the 25-year-old attacker should not have a shortage of offers.

“I’m ready for anything. Carolina has rights to me, but the agent and I are in contact with her every day,” Nečas admitted at the announcement of the Golden Stick, where he took third place. “I hope it goes well for me and the Hurricanes. Either we will continue together and as best we can, or we will leave for good,” he continued.

He himself evaluated the season overseas that it was like being on a swing. A solid regular season from a team point of view was replaced by failure in the playoffs, where Carolina fell short in the second round against the New York Rangers. But the failure at the club level was replaced by the joy of winning gold medals at the home world championship.

“Something bad is good for something. In Carolina, my position was not ideal. I want to be among the key players. I feel the best on the ice in those situations and I want to play them. Hopefully it will improve by next season, no matter where it is,” believes Nečas, who spent almost a minute less on the ice compared to last season.

But he flew onto the international stage. At the World Cup, he scored seven points in five games and contributed significantly to ending a fourteen-year wait for the title. However, according to him, it is not very likely that a successful championship would help him to a better negotiating position across the ocean.

However, Nečas’ performance at the championship did not remain without response in the Czech environment. The native of Žďár nad Sázavou finished third in the Golden Hockey Stick poll, with only goalkeeper Lukáš Dostál and forward David Pastrňák ahead of him. “And both deservedly so. It’s another motivation for the season, for someone to make Pastu angry and perhaps skip one,” Nečas recalled Pastrňák’s seventh victory in the poll in the last eight years.

“This year, however, we did not set up a competitive environment for him. Especially in the NHL. He scored the most points there,” said Nečas, praising the qualities of his teammate from the national team.
