Junior badminton player Nicolás Morales Rey, from Quindío, advanced to the semifinals of the Invitational Tournament held in El Salvador with the presence of about 60 athletes from Costa Rica, Guatemala, Peru, Colombia and the organizing country.
The event is prior to the I Salvador Junior International 2024 that begins this Thursday and which awards points in the world ranking of the category.
Morales defeated Diego Trujillo, from Guatemala, third in the tournament standings, 2-1 in the first round; and in the second, 2-0 to Melvin Calzadilla, the number 1 of El Salvador.
In the semifinal, Nicolás Morales from Quindío will face Guatemalan José Daniel Ochoa, 33rd in the junior world ranking.
