Nicolò Fagioli at the European Championship? The story of the former Cremonese sporting director

A topic that is causing a lot of discussion is that of Nicolò Fagioli being called up to Spalletti’s national team. What do you think about this?
“I think it’s a smart call. These are difficult situations to manage and we need to protect a boy who has shown that he has understood his mistake and his problem. Fagioli made himself available to help those who already had these problems. A call-up that protects the man but re-evaluates a player of incredible qualities.”

Tuttosport – Juventus, the next few days will be decisive for Rabiot’s future

In your opinion, does Fagioli deserve a place in the upcoming European Championship?
“Hard to say. From what I said before, yes. It must be considered that there are players who have had a positive year without being disqualified. However, I think this is a difficult situation, I trust in Spalletti’s human and technical management. In my opinion, the possibility given is right.”

How important can a figure like Fagioli be in Thiago Motta’s Juventus?
“We saw that Thiago Motta works a lot with ball possession, a lot of movement without the ball with sudden insertions. Looking at Bologna this is evident. I think it’s one of the best qualities, in my opinion Fagioli can complete these characteristics: he is a good dribbler, skilled at insertions and has a shot from outside. I think it’s really fitting.”

How much do you think that a long suspension like the one the midfielder received could have made him grow from a mental point of view?
“A strong experience. I think the people who were close to him and his family helped him a lot. I believe it is a decisive step, especially at the beginning of the season, it is essential that people still transmit positivity to him, even with this call-up. I met him as a boy in the Cremonese youth team and he was very polite and sensitive. Time will make these stains disappear.”

Can you tell us about the first Fagioli?
“I was in the first team at Cremonese but I frequented the youth sector a lot. He was an incredible talent even as a kid and it showed. We almost missed him making his debut in the first team, we called him up every now and then. If he had stayed the following year he would have been on a permanent basis. I was struck by his education and sometimes his shyness but it was clear that he had the qualities to emerge at high levels. Juventus were very capable of blocking him immediately. At the time there were other teams courting him, such as Roma. However, Juventus followed him a lot, the boy deserved it.”

Do you think he could be the future of Juventus and the national team’s midfield?
“Absolutely yes. If he overcomes this moment of difficulty, I can see from the images that are seen on TV of the training sessions, when he returns calmly I think he will be a player for the national team and a protagonist in an important team like Juventus.”
