Novak Djokovic Confident in Wimbledon Return Following Knee Surgery

Novak Djokovic (37) is ready to extend his Wimbledon record collection of 24 Grand Slams less than a month after knee surgery. After a week of training in London, the second player in the world ranking is confident that the knee can withstand the load. Vít Kopřiva (27) is waiting for the seven-time winner of the famous tournament to start on Tuesday.

“I’ve been training here for a week, especially the last three days have been very intense. I played practice sets against some top players so I put the knee almost to the max. He is responding very well so far, which is great news for my participation.” Djokovic said.

The Belgrade native injured his right knee in the Roland Garros round of 16 against Argentina’s Francisco Cerúndola. Subsequently, he withdrew from the tournament where he defended his title and underwent meniscus surgery.

“Of course, when the tournament starts, I will have more impressions and feedback on how my knee reacts to a five-set match,” said Djokovic, who did not want to lose his start at Wimbledon. “I wouldn’t say that I was afraid of missing out. Rather, I really wanted to play here. Especially in Wimbledon, which has been my dream tournament since I was a child.” he added.

The Serbian tennis player, who is waiting for his first title this season, can succeed in Wimbledon for the eighth time. She is also aiming for a record 25th Grand Slam triumph, which would see her become independent at the top of the all-time rankings ahead of Australia’s Margaret Court. Last year he won three Grand Slams, he failed only at Wimbledon, where he was defeated in the final by Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz.
