Since the beginning of June it has been clear that U19 coach Oliver Reiß will be leaving Hertha BSC after 17 years. Now, according to “Sky”, it is also clear which club will be his next: Manchester City. The 41-year-old will take over the U18 team there for the new season. Official confirmation is still pending, but the deal is expected to take place next week.

Reiß gave up the role of assistant coach at Hertha under the new professional coach Cristian Fiél. “It’s no secret that Hertha is very close to my heart. I was able to be a coach here for 17 years, which is something very special – and says a lot. That’s why the decision to leave the club was extremely difficult for me. Especially since those in charge really tried very hard for me and showed me exciting prospects. But I still decided to start a new adventure. I would like to thank all my companions at Hertha BSC for a really cool time. For me, this is not a farewell forever, but a goodbye,” Reiß was quoted as saying in a club statement. According to the media report, RSC Anderlecht also wanted to recruit Reiß as an assistant coach.

Reiß has held various roles at Hertha since 2007, and has been in charge of the A-Juniors for the past two years. The Berlin native led the team to the championship title in the North/Northeast division, and in the final round of the German championship they were eliminated in the semi-finals against Borussia Dortmund. The bottom line is an average of 2.14 points from 57 games. Man City are said to have tried to sign Reiß because he follows a similar playing philosophy to Pep Guardiola, among other things. The Spaniard has been training England’s most valuable squad since 2016 and his contract ends next year. He recently hinted at a departure.
