Olympiad | Perušič and Schweiner have Evandra and Arthur, the Czech world champions, at the Olympics

Perušič and Schweiner are fifth in the Olympic rankings, 2017 World Cup gold medalist Evander and Arthur are eighth. Last year in Tlaxcal, the Czechs lost to them in the last match of the group in two sets, but then they made it through the playoffs to the world title. Their other opponents at the Olympics in Group E will be Austrians Julian Hörl, Alexander Horst and Canadian pair Samuel Schachter and Daniel Dearing.

“The lottery was relatively friendly to us. With Evander and Arthur, we have a negative balance in the form of a defeat at last year’s world championship. It will certainly be the most dangerous opponent in this group,” Perušič told ČTK. “None of those games will be easy, but if we perform well, we should progress from the group. If we play well, the Brazilians should be a direct competitor in the fight for first place,” he added.

Hermannová and Štochlova got to Paris at the last minute. After experiencing the disappointment of the final defeat at the Nations Cup, their defeaters from the Netherlands did not meet the national criteria and the Czech beach volleyball players got their chance. At the Olympics, they will also be in group C with the Germans Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann and the domestic couple Clémence Vieira and Aline Chamereau.

On the sand under the Eiffel Tower, 24 couples in each category will compete for Olympic medals. From the six groups of four, the two best couples and two of the three places will advance. The remaining four couples on the 3rd places will compete in the preliminary round for two places in the round of 16.

The Paris Games begin on July 26, with the beach volleyball tournament the day after.
