One Wall: Revitalizing Gaelic Sports in Nantes with Street Art and Community Development

A ball, a wall, lines on the ground… The list of equipment for practicing One Wall is not very extensive. And yet, it nonetheless remains a discipline in its own right in the category of Gaelic sports. Established in the United States and England, this sport continues to expand in France after the opening of a site in Roubaix. Born from the meeting between Guillaume Kerrien, Gaelic football player, and Francky Trichet, vice-president of Nantes Métropole and delegate for free sports practices, this wall project in the city, in the form of street art, aims to develop sports Gaelic in Nantes, but also to revitalize the city and encourage sports practice.

Sponsored by Decathlon, the project developed in record time (between February 15 and June 18) and required the investment of many people. Among others, Studio Katra and in particular Antoine Gripay, have joined forces once again with the Romanian artist OCU to create a work of art related to the movement. Permanent, this work of art will serve as ground, but also as continuity in the City’s desire to inscribe art in Nantes. For the players of Don Bosco, the Gaelic sports association of Nantes, this development is a good opportunity for development and will now allow the hosting of several tournaments during the summer.
