Paralympic Games ticket sales slowly increasing

“The symbolic milestone of one million tickets allocated or sold” for the Paralympic Games (August 28 to September 8) was ” reached ” June 26, announced the Paris 2024 Games Organizing Committee (Cojop) on Thursday, June 27.

“Two months before the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games, ticket sales continue their momentum in this home stretch”manages Cojop.

This “dynamic” is not, however, that strong. Paralympic ticketing opened on October 9, 2023, with 2.8 million places on sale. In November 2023, Cojop announced that it had sold 830,000. In March, the figure was 900,000, which caused some concern among the organizers.

These were all the stronger since a large proportion of the tickets purchased had been purchased by the State or the Games’ partners: in December 2023, the Paris 2024 management acknowledged that this was the case for 80% of the tickets (the State had notably purchased 300,000).

If the organizers regularly repeat that the sales of these tickets are traditionally “sales that arrive late” – 40% of tickets were sold between the start of the Olympic Games and the end of the Paralympic Games in London in 2012 – a campaign to “get” the general public was launched in May. With a slogan: “I don’t miss anything except you”.

The uncertainties weighing on revenue from ticketing constitute one of the last areas of concern for public authorities in preparation for the Games.

The organization of the Paralympic Games “is in deficit”, declared Amélie Oudéa-Castéra on May 28 in front of the deputies. The situation is considered sufficiently critical for the State to have decided to grant an additional 33 million euros to (Cojop) for this Paralympic component alone. Local authorities also have ” act “ making an additional contribution.
