Paris 2024 Olympics: A Historic Event Steeped in French Culture and Tradition

In a month, Paris will be the epicenter of world sport. The city is already vibrating with excitement to receive the Olympic Games and the authorities are finalizing the organizational details of an event that will have the eyes of the world focused on the French capital.

The Games will open on July 26, 2024 and will run until August 11, 2024.

Paris was confirmed as the host of the 2024 Olympic Games at the 130th Session of the International Olympic Committee held in Lima, Peru, on September 13, 2017.

It will be the third time that the Olympic Games will be held in Pariswhich already received the best athletes in the world in 1900 and 1924. The French capital will become the second city, after London, to host the Olympic Games three times.

So far, the Argentine delegation has 126 qualified athletes, who will compete in 23 sports: athletics, canoeing, cycling, horse riding, fencing, soccer, golf, handball, field hockey, judo, swimming, modern pentathlon, rowing, rugby 7s , skateboarding, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, archery, shooting sports, triathlon, sailing and volleyball.

Headquarters

Some of Paris’ best-known monuments will become Olympic venues in 2024. Beach volleyball will be played in the Parc du Champ de Mars, while the Eiffel Tower and the Seine River will be the venues for open water swimming and the triathlon. The horse riding and modern pentathlon will be held at the Château de Versailles, while the road cycling will take place along the Champs-Élysées. There will also be fencing and taekwondo at the Grand Palais and Roland Garros will host tennis and boxing.

Opening ceremony

For the first time in the history of the Olympic Games, the Opening Ceremony will not take place in a stadium. The athletes’ parade will take place on the Seine River, with boats for each national delegation. From east to west, the 10,500 athletes will pass through the center of Paris and the parade will reach the end of its six-kilometer route in front of the Trocadero.

Medals

Paris 2024 chose the emblematic symbol of France, the Eiffel Tower, as a reference point for the design of the Olympic medals. Each medal will have original iron from the Eiffel Tower, which appears in the shape of a hexagon in the center of each medal. In this way, the athletes who stand on the podium will take with them a small piece of French history.

Pet

Although many recent Olympic mascots have taken the form of animals, the Paris 2024 mascot represents an ideal. It is the Olympic Phrygian (Phryge). The mascot is designed to resemble the Phrygian cap, a symbol of freedom that appears on French stamps and coins, in French art and in town halls across the country.
