Paris 2024 Olympics: Russian Judo Federation boycotts the Games and denounces “humiliating conditions”

No Russian judoka will travel to Paris this summer to participate in the Olympic Games. The Russian Judo Federation announced this Friday that it was boycotting the competition. She denounces the “humiliating conditions” imposed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on its athletes to participate in the event.

This Thursday, the IOC unveiled a list of Russian and Belarusian athletes authorized to take part in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, only under a neutral banner. “Of the seventeen judokas who received an Olympic qualification, the IOC only authorized four to participate in the Olympic Games,” says the Russian Federation. The remaining athletes are forced to stay at home. »

Inal Tasoev will not meet Teddy Riner again

The body therefore decided to completely boycott the Games: “In this situation, the presidency of the Russian Judo Federation has made a unanimous decision: the Russian national judo team will not accept humiliating conditions and will not participate in the Paris Games with the composition proposed by officials of the International Olympic Committee. »

The 2023 world co-champion, Inal Tasoev, could potentially have crossed paths with Teddy Riner at heavyweight. During the World Championships in Doha, he lost the final to the Frenchman. But a month later, the International Federation recognized a refereeing error and awarded him the title as well.
