“Sales of trips to Paris during the Olympic Games period, from July 26 to August 11, are 40 percent lower than last year. The reason is that Paris will be overcrowded and the price of hotels has increased to ten times the normal price,” spokeswoman of the Invia travel agency Jiřina Ekrt Jirušková told Novinka.
“Rock sports fans have already bought their stays in Paris long ago, usually together with the tickets. For other Czech tourists, Paris became too crowded and too expensive during the games. Therefore, they tend to focus their stay in this metropolis on a different date,” she added.
According to her, travel agencies are now facing the problem of how to implement annual sightseeing tours to the French capital when the city is overcrowded. For this reason, many travel agencies did not even offer dates for sightseeing tours and Euroweekends to Paris during the games.

According to estimates published in the spring by the Paris Tourist Office, average hotel prices during the games will increase by more than 300 percent compared to the normal summer.
Hotels are already largely occupied. For example, the cheapest room still available for the night of the opening ceremony in the luxurious five-star hotel Waldorf Astoria Versailles will now cost 48,000 crowns, while in March the same room cost “only” 5,000 crowns per night.
Even Airbnb is not cheap
For the remaining free rooms, hoteliers therefore dare to claim up to ten times the sums. One can only speculate whether the unoccupied rooms will be cheaper at the last minute.
The Olympics also drove up the prices of private accommodation via platforms like Airbnb. The analysis of the real estate company AirDNA shows that rental prices in the outer suburbs of the French capital are around seven thousand crowns per night. Inside Paris, prepare at least twice this amount.
According to Student Agency ticket sales manager Lenka Kašická, the cheapest round-trip tickets from Prague for over five thousand crowns are currently available during the games with the carriers Vueling and Smartwings. The director of the Letuška.cz portal, Josef Trejbal, states that the lowest prices for flights to Paris are already around three thousand crowns, but during the games they will probably be several thousand more expensive, depending on the demand and the achievements of Czech athletes.
Ticket prices for a sporting event vary quite significantly depending on the discipline. Among the cheaper ones are golf tickets from 24 euros (600 crowns), while athletics competitions usually cost over 200 euros (5,000 CZK).
The sports holiday will take place in the French capital from July 26 to August 11. Football matches will be held in cities across France, but the final will take place at the Stade de France in Paris. After that, the country will also have the Paralympic Games, which are scheduled from August 28 to September 8. Both events are to be secured by tens of thousands of police officers.
