Patrick Williams Commits to $90 Million Deal with Chicago Bulls, Opting for Rebuild Amidst Team Changes

Chicago Bulls have convinced Patrick Williams. According to Shams Charania of The Athleticthe 22-year-old forward will sign a new contract with the Illinois organization as soon as it is possible to do so – opening of free agency.

Despite interest from other teams such as the Oklahoma City Thunder, the former number 4 pick in the 2020 draft has opted to remain with the team where he began his career for a total of $90 million spread over five years.

It’s no surprise that the Bulls have given their young player what he asks for. Although perhaps more was expected of him in his first years in the NBA, he is still in time to become a very good player. In addition, he has a good defensive performance and in the 2023-24 season he averaged 10 points in 27.3 minutes per night with an outstanding 39.9 percent on three-pointers.

As for Chicago’s situation in general, everything points to a rebuild. DeMar DeRozan could change teams as a free agent and they are eager to trade Zach LaVine. At the very least, they will have a clean slate, as evidenced by the trade that took Alex Caruso to get Josh Giddey.
