Latvian javelin thrower Patrik Gailums managed to achieve a good result in the European Championship not only in the qualification, but also in the finals, concluded Gailums.

It has already been reported that Gailums, throwing a javelin 82.28 meters away, took seventh place at the European Athletics Championships in Rome on Wednesday. “I am satisfied. We did our job and squeezed everything we could. The technical performance was better than in the qualification, but the emotions were a little less. If the start is the day before, it consumes a lot. We got the body back in line, the mind also about 80%. I am happy – I finally have a good result in the final, and I am not ashamed of what I did today,” said Gailums in a conversation with the Latvian Athletics Union (LVS).

He explained that the achieved result will help in qualifying for the Olympic Games, as he has now managed to move up to the 28th position in the ranking. “The roster is tight and every start is very important. Let’s not say that this result can relax, but it allows me to save a little for more important starts, for example, the Latvian championship,” added the javelin thrower.

“The entire season so far has been subordinated to the European Championship, which has ended, and the Olympics. Of course, I still have to go to the Olympic Games, and even now, no one has given me a ticket. You will still have to fight for a place under the sun. I had offers to run to bronze matches, but now I don’t have to run to them anymore. I can focus more on health and not stress about unnecessary starts,” the athlete added.

Before the javelin final competition, among the 12 finalists, Gailum had the tenth best result of this season – 82.39 meters, which was achieved on Tuesday in the qualification competition. Latvia was represented by 12 athletes in ten disciplines at the European Athletics Championship.
