Paula Badosa’s Spa Day: Delights Audience in Bad Homburg with Local Knowledge

The final warm-up before the tennis world’s big highlight of the year is taking place in Germany! Before the prestigious tournament in Wimbledon starts on Monday (July 1, 2024), the WTA Tour will be fighting for victory at the Bad Homburg Open.

Paula Badosa (26), formerly number two in the world, also wants to get the final touches in Hesse before leaving for London. Since the peak of her career in April 2022, the Spaniard has dropped to 113th place. On Tuesday (June 25) she made it clear: her best form may be gone, but her humor is not.

After her victory over local hero Jule Niemeier (24), Badosa was asked in an interview over the stadium microphone how she wanted to use her free Wednesday before the quarter-final duel on Thursday against Russian Diana Maximowna Schneider (20). She proved to be surprisingly well informed about the local conditions.

“Please don’t tell me you’re going to stay in the hotel, train or do something else boring,” joked Oliver Seidler. The Sky commentator is working as an on-court presenter in Bad Homburg. And Badosa immediately joined in the relaxed atmosphere of conversation!

“Come on: What is this town famous for?” Badosa asked challengingly. Shortly afterwards, she helped Seidler along, explaining: “The most important thing: spa!” In fact, the town’s spa business is known far beyond the borders of Bad Homburg – and has apparently even made a name for itself in Spain.

“I’m going to work out, relax a bit. And yes, maybe I’ll go to the spa,” said Badosa with a smile on her face, giving an insight into her wellness plans.

Since wellness days including sauna sessions can help athletes to regenerate, the plan fit perfectly into the right-hander’s planned recovery program. Especially since it’s worth hitting Wimbledon with fresh legs, where record prize money is on offer.

The audience in the stands honored Badosa’s local knowledge with enthusiastic applause, and the official Instagram account of the WTA tournament also shared the interview snippet in its story and asked with a wink: “So a spa day tomorrow?”
