Head of the Development and Achievement Division (Kabid Binpres) of PBSI and Deputy Manager of the PBSI AdHoc Team for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Ricky Soebagdja, revealed that his party was limiting the activities of Jonathan et al outside of national training.

“God willing, we will leave (for Paris) on July 13. Nine athletes plus support team, coaches, we camp (in Chambly) before going to athlete village,” said Ricky in a press conference at the PBSI National Training Center which was also attended by Kompas.com, Wednesday (26/6/2024).

“Thank God, the athletes are currently in good condition. Last week we carried out special physical tests for Olympic athletes. The results from the sports science team show that their progress has increased, which has made the athletes more confident,” he said.

“As we get closer to departure, our preparations are even more focused. The athletes cannot leave the dormitory. Especially on Saturdays, we allow them to go home, but on Sunday they return to the dormitory,” added Ricky.

Ricky explained that time restrictions were implemented so that Olympic athletes would not be distracted by non-technical matters and would focus during training.

“Especially for Olympic athletes, we have time restrictions. The goal is clearly so that athletes focus more on maintaining their performance,” said the 1996 Atlanta Olympic gold winner.

“I know exactly because I have experienced it, there is pressure that athletes sometimes don’t realize. With the remaining time, we really protect athletes from everything,” he said.

“If you say quarantine, they have been in the dormitory all this time. But the time they go out for those who don’t need to is really limited. They can go out on Saturdays, maybe meet with family and come back on Sundays,” said Ricky.

It’s not just a matter of limiting time outside of national training, athletes are also starting to limit their use of social media.

“If it’s not true urgent, “It means not because of family or parents, we actually don’t allow that. Unless there is a medical need,” said Ricky.

“If you have to go out for recovery, we allow it. So, maybe things like that. “We have also conveyed social media and cellphones before,” he said.

“Don’t bring cellphones during training. So far it has gone well, once again the aim is for the athletes to focus on carrying out training in the remaining time,” he said.
