Pink Summer Sports Tournament Returns to Nijmegen: Celebrating Inclusivity and Diversity in Sports

NIJMEGEN – Queer Sport Nijmegen will hold its annual international Pink Summer Sports tournament during the weekend of Friday 21 to Sunday 23 June. Athletes from home and abroad participate in badminton, beach volleyball, open water swimming and tennis in Nijmegen.

According to chairman Adrie Luykx of Queer Sport Nijmegen, Nijmegen is once again putting itself on the national map as a sporty and LGBTIQ-friendly city with Pink Summer Sports. “Queer Sport Nijmegen wants to encourage LGBTIQ emancipation through sport, create a safe and positive sports climate and promote the integration of the LGBTIQ community. Anyone who wants to contribute is welcome and can register via www.pinksummersports.nl.”

The tournament starts on Friday evening, June 21 at 6 p.m. at café De Plak with a walk through the pink history of Nijmegen. Afterwards there will be a Meet & Greet for the participating athletes.

On Saturday, June 22, there will be singles and doubles matches at different levels in badminton in the De Boog sports hall in Lent. At the same time, the beach volleyball players in the sand of BVC Aiolos try to prevent the ball from hitting the ground. Open water swimmers will jump in the Spiegelwaal for their 750 and 1500 meters from 1 p.m. At TV Rapiditas the tennis players will be on the clay from 10.30 am. Saturday ends with a communal meal and party.

Queer Sport Nijmegen will be present on Sunday June 23 at the Regenboogactivities market of COC Region Nijmegen on the Mariënburgplein in Nijmegen.
