Provincial Council of Malaga Closes Educational Football and Basketball Leagues with Over 4,300 Schoolchildren Participating

Today, Tuesday, June 25, the Educational Football and Basketball Leagues of the Provincial Council of Malaga have closed, which were held from November to June and in which more than 4,300 schoolchildren between 5 and 15 years old from 66 municipalities participated. from the province.

The president of the Provincial Council, Francisco Salado, who presided over the closing galas of both leagues, recalled that the Provincial Council organizes these activities for the students of the Municipal Football and Basketball Schools of the province, “young athletes who find in the football and basketball a reason to not only have a good time, but to test their spirit of improvement and also set an example of a healthy way of life,” he highlighted.

These schoolchildren, who train from Monday to Friday, have the possibility of continuing to play sports on weekends in the Educational Leagues, in an educational and non-competitive league format that focuses on the values ​​that sport represents.

“From the Provincial Council, we feel especially proud of the work we do among all those involved in this project to transmit to children the importance of teamwork, responsibility, and above all respect,” said the president, who has made emphasis on the importance of “knowing how to lose and learning to win.”

“Today, the Malaga Provincial Council wants to reward the sportsmanship, firmness and tenacity that all those who have decided to be part of this initiative have assumed,” he expressed.

Educational Football League

More than 3,000 schoolchildren from 60 municipalities have participated in the Educational Football League: Alameda, Alhaurín el Grande, Almáchar, Almargen, Almogia, Álora, Alozaina, Antequera, Archidona, Ardales, Arriate, Benahavís, Benalmádena, Benaoján, Campillos, Canillas de Aceituno, Cañete la Real, Cártama, Casarabonela, Casares, Colmenar, Coín, Cortes de la Frontera, Cuevas Bajas, Cuevas del Becerro, Cuevas de San Marcos, El Borge, El Burgo, Estepona, Frigiliana, Fuente de Piedra, Gaucín, Guaro , Humilladero, Istán, Iznate, Moclinejo, Mollina, Monda, Nerja, Ojén, Periana, Rincón de la Victoria, Riogordo, Sayalonga, Sierra de Yeguas, Teba, Tolox, Valle de Abdalajís, Vélez-Málaga, Villanueva de Algaidas, Villanueva de la Concepción, Villanueva del Rosario, Villanueva de Tapia, Villanueva del Trabuco, La Viñuela and Yunquera.

It has been a double round league with 14 days plus the final phase, which was played in May. In addition, the Alevín and Infantil Christmas Solidarity Tournament was held, which took place on December 27 and 28 with 45 teams and 630 participants; the Benjamín Semana Blanca Tournament, which was held on February 27 with 16 teams and 224 participants; and the Children’s Educational Tournament, which was played on May 1 with 12 teams and 168 participants.

During the gala, the league champion teams received their trophies, which were Cuevas del Becerro in the pre-child category; Rincón de la Victoria in benjamín, Antequera in alevín and Villanueva del Trabuco in infant.

The schools of Alozaina, Ardales, Casares, Mollina, Villanueva del Trabuco, La Viñuela, Vélez-Málaga and Gaucín have received sportsmanship awards, and the Educate in Values ​​award has gone to Benahavís.

In addition, the Provincial Council and the Andalusian Football Federation have awarded recognition for their sporting merits and their contribution to sport in the province of Malaga to Manuel María Pacheco Muñoz, Silvia Mérida Ramírez. They have also recognized Marbella FC for its promotion to 1st RFEF, and Málaga CF for its promotion to 2nd division.

Educational Basketball League

For its part, the Educational Basketball League has brought together 1,300 schoolchildren from 24 municipalities: Álora, Antequera, Archidona, Ardales, Benahavís, Benalmádena, Cártama, Casarabonela, Cómpeta, Estepona, Frigiliana, Humilladero, Manilva, Mollina, Nerja, Rincón de la Victoria, Ronda, Sierra de Yeguas, Teba, Torrox, Vélez-Málaga, Villanueva de Algaidas, Villanueva de la Concepción and Villanueva del Rosario.

It has been a round-trip league with three groups whose final phase was played on June 9. In addition, the Christmas Tournament was held on December 27 and the White Week Tournament on March 2.

The league champions, who collected their trophies during the gala, were Frigiliana in pre-benjamín, Villanueva de la Concepción in benjamín, Frigiliana in Alevín, Ronda in children and Estepona in cadet.

The sportsmanship awards went to the schools of Villanueva del Rosario, Benahavís and Vélez-Málaga, and the Educate in Values ​​award went to Cártama.

In addition, the Provincial Council and the Andalusian Basketball Federation have recognized CB Unicaja Málaga and CAB Estepona for the 2023-2024 season.
